Faith Baptist Church of Linden

Fall 2011 Course Descriptions

Beginning August 7, 2011

Discipling:

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 instructs us not only to make converts, but the make disciples. Jesus instructs the disciples to turn and make disciples of others.  They are not to make disciples of themselves, but of Jesus.  Just as He had done, they were to invest their lives in teaching others to follow Christ.  But why and  how are we to do this?  The discipling course will help Christians to understand their role in discipling both individually and as a member of the body of Christ in the local church.

New Testament Overview (Part 1):

The New Testament Overview course provides not only a book by book overview of the New Testament, but will also focus on the “Kingdom” theme heavily present throughout the New Testament.  This course will help develop students get a solid overview of the New Testament, develop a greater understanding of its continuity, reveal the continuity with the Old Testament and spur a greater love for God’s Word.

Parenting:

Parenting is a broad overview course that covers many aspects of the family and parenting.  The course will explore God’s purpose in the family and the corporate witness of the family to the church and to the world, father/son and mother/daughter relationships, family worship, instructing and disciplining children and what to do when you can’t reach your children.  Whether you are currently a parent, intending to be a parent or want to help strengthen other families consider this course.

Systematic Theology (Part 2):

This course will pick up where Systematic Theology (Part 1) left off.  Systematic Theology seeks to arrange the whole of Biblical teaching into logical, topical divisions.  This, then, allows for the formulation of doctrine and helps us to construct an overall view of the nature of God, as He has revealed Himself in Scripture, and the manner in which He interacts with His creation.  Systematic Theology will cover the nature and attributes of God, the Bible, Sin, the nature and work of Christ, the nature and work of the Holy Spirit, Salvation, the Church and End Times.  Based on this course, students should be able to develop and defend a comprehensive view of their Christian beliefs while strengthening their faith.

Book of the Bible:

This course will study an individual book of the Bible with special emphasis on covering aspects of Doctrine, Christian Life and Christian Growth.
