How to Know You Have Eternal Life

First, you need to know that eternal life is a free gift. (Romans 6:23)
 
Second, you need to know and believe that your own sin keeps you from having eternal life. (Romans 3:23) Sin is breaking God's law, and God's law is perfect, so sin is anything less than perfection. In fact the word "sin" means to "miss the mark."
 
Third, you need to know and believe that God is just, and therefore must punish sin. (Romans 5:12, Romans 6:23 ) This being so, we all have three major problems: We have all sinned. [2] We all deserve the penalty
for sin…death. [3] We are all condemned to spiritual, physical and eternal death. But there is hope…
 
Fourth, you need to know and believe that God is a God of Love, Grace and Mercy. (John3:16)

Fifth, you need to know and believe that God solved these problems for you in the person of Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:8) God must judge and punish your sin, but because of His love for you, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take your punishment if you will trust Him as your personal Savior. (1 John 4:14, 2 Corinthians. 5:21)

Sixth, If you would like to receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, then call on Him, and He will save you. (Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:13 )

Here's a suggested prayer:

"Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life. I believe that Jesus died for my sins on the cross and that he rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Dear God, I ask you to forgive my sins; come into my life; save me and take control of my life. I repent of my sins and now place my trust in You for my salvation. I accept Your free gift of eternal life."
